Vocal Arts DC presents
Lawrence Brownlee, tenor, with Myra Huang, piano

Lawrence Brownlee continues to go from strength to strength this season as he makes important international debuts and revisits scenes of recent triumphs in New York, London, Paris, Munich, and Chicago, among others. His honeyed sound and unparalleled technical bravura combine with mind-boggling musicianship to make him one of today's uniquely irreplaceable vocal luminaries. Pianist Myra Huang accompanies Brownlee in a program that spans the full range of musical and emotional expression, pairing the classic song cycle Dichterliebe with the Washington premiere of Tyshawn Sorey's new work Cycles of My Being, chronicling the modern African-American experience.

Performance Timing: Part One - 29 min.; Intermission - 20 min.; Part Two - 31 min.

"Brownlee made familiar fare sound intriguingly fresh, banishing, for a moment, the ghosts of Caruso and Pavarotti." (The New Yorker)
