The bad boys of abridgement bring their brand-new roller-coaster ride through the world's greatest books to the Terrace Theater.

Shakespeare once said, "Brevity is the soul of wit." America's best-loved comedy troupe takes this message to heart when it returns to the Kennedy Center with an uproarious new definition of "speed reading." The Reduced Shakespeare Company presents All the Great Books (abridged), a laugh-out-loud journey through a compact compendium of the world's great literary works June 10–August 2 in the Terrace Theater.

The Reduced Shakespeare Company has come a long way from its beginnings as a pass-the-hat act at California Renaissance Fairs. Internationally adored, the company often has as many as four different touring productions being presented simultaneously on three different continents.

The versatile and flexible actors—some of whom boast backgrounds as circus clowns—are renowned for their witty and quick condensations of the most serious material, from Shakespeare to the history of America to the Bible. "The RSC attains satiric heights for which other comedy teams wouldn't think to reach," said National Public Radio's Bob Mondello.

From a reduced Proust to a short Longfellow, "this trio of modern Marx Brothers will have you in stitches" (The Boston Herald) as they compress 83 of history's preeminent tomes into ninety-eight minutes of "intellectual vaudeville" (The New York Times) and physical comedy.

The Reduced Shakespeare Company was last seen at the Kennedy Center in the summer of 2001 when they performed The Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged). Don't miss this opportunity to see the company known for its "zany, madcap satire" (The Chicago Tribune) in a fresh show of wordplay and even swordplay.
