About

Syria's Ensemble Al-Kindi, founded in 1983 by the French virtuoso of Arab zither (qanun) Julien Jalal Eddine Weiss, is currently rated among the best groups devoted to classical Arab music. They join with the Whirling Dervishes of Aleppo for an evening of music and dance. Under Weiss's leadership, the ensemble interprets the classical Arab repertoire, setting the instruments into sharp relief and thus re-establishing a balance which very often exclusively favors the sung melody.
