For the duration of Nordic Cool 2013, the Terrace Gallery will become the Cool Club, an extension of the Nordic Design Illustrated exhibition. The Cool Club will feature the iconic Arne Jacobsen Series 7 chairs, on loan from Fritz Hansen, the Embassy of Denmark in Washington, D.C., and Furniture from Scandinavia, and a new curtain made from fabric by Marimekko.
One of the greatest classics of the Scandinavian silent cinema, The Phantom Carriage is based on a legend that the last person to die in a given year must drive the carriage picking up the souls of the dead all throughout the next year. When David Holm (played by director Victor Sjöström) dies in a brawl on New Years' Eve, he seems to be the next candidate for the job; but after reviewing his life, and its many mistakes, he asks that he be given one more chance. The special effects were way ahead of their time, and the passages between the living and ghostly worlds are done with great invention.
