Improvisation abounds with tricks, flips, and riffs, as skateboarders shred a ramp to live music performed by pianist Jason Moran and his group The Bandwagon. See how skaters and musicians improvise with each other in a unique collaboration on the Kennedy Center Plaza. These two performances are the culmination of a nearly two week–long festival that celebrates an exciting and influential part of American culture by highlighting local artists, as well as the creativity and improvisation skateboarding and music share. Throughout the summer, local artist and skateboarder Ben Ashworth has been leading the skate bowl construction process with help from Kennedy Center staff, George Mason University students, local skateboarding enthusiasts, and members of the community at large.

Featured skaters: Ron Allen, Ben Ashworth, Sam Boo, Steve Caballero, Natalie Krishna Das, Reese Forbes, Ben Hatchell, Jimmy Pelletier, Tom Remillard, Robbie Russo, Marisa Dal Santo, Sean Sheffey, Elissa Steamer, Chuck Treece, Brian Tucci, Rob Welsh, and Bobby Worrest, plus Cuban skaters Raciel Pereda Bernet, Yoan Manolo Galiana, and Fernando Verdecia Maseda

Performance Timing: 90 minutes, with no intermission

Note: Patrons holding standing-room-only tickets will be located on the south side of the Front Plaza, outside the Hall of Nations entrance.
