Singer-songwriter Amos Lee makes his Kennedy Center debut with music from his new album, Spirit, as part of his North American headline tour. Lee's recently released new single "Vaporize" reveals a distinct musical evolution for the critically acclaimed Philadelphia musician. Driven by expansive production, elegant keys, and his unmistakable soulful delivery, the song immediately enchants and signals a bright new chapter. "Vaporize" is the first release from his forthcoming sixth full-length album and debut for John Varvatos Records/Republic Records.
His prior studio release, Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song, earned acclaim from the New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, Paste, and More. His 2011 offering, Mission Bell, took #1 on the Billboard Top 200. Along the way, he has performed on late night television shows Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and the Late Show with David Letterman.
The evening opens with a performance from versatile jazz singer/songwriter Laurin Talese. Although her greatest affinity is jazz, Laurin is versatile within many musical genres. She has worked with numerous recording artists including Ed Sheeran, Bilal, Aloe Blacc, Christian McBride, Robert Glasper and Vivian Green. As a complement to her effortless vocal abilities, Laurin is a passionate songwriter. It is the union of her pure tone and poignant lyrics that excite her audiences and helps to define her sound. Most recently, Laurin partnered with Grammy-award winning drummer and producer Ulysses Owens Jr. and internationally acclaimed music director/producer Adam Blackstone (BASSic Black Entertainment) to create her highly anticipated debut album Gorgeous Chaos--which was released on March 25, 2016 and charted at #14 on Billboard's Jazz Charts upon release.
