Five-time Grammy®-winning opera star Kathleen Battle returns to D.C. with a powerful program of songs inspired by the secret network that helped transport 19th-century slaves to freedom. She brings “remarkable freshness and beauty” (The New York Times) to classic spirituals and traditional pieces, including “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and “Wade in the Water." A chorus comprised of Members of Voices of the Underground Railroad join Ms. Battle for the program, along with pianist Joel A. Martin and special guest Cyrus Chestnut.
