About

Compañía Irene Rodríguez
Desde nuestras raíces: Traditional Flamenco with Afro-Cuban Flair

Focused on creating and exploring new avenues to evolve flamenco dance, dancer and choreographer Irene Rodríguez melds the fiery passion and exhilarating footwork of flamenco with a unique Afro-Cuban flair. Her company’s program showcases different dance styles ranging from genuine flamenco like Bulerías and Tanguillo de Cádiz; to Afro-Cuban dances like guaguancó, son, and rumba; to La Guajira and La Habanera. Among her many honors, Rodríguez has been awarded First Prize in the Ibero-American Choreography Competition “Alicia Alonso” in 2012, and an award from the Author’s Foundation of the Spanish General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE).

“Ms. Rodríguez is an intense, exacting dancer; the word ‘fiery’ so overused with respect to flamenco, actually suits her well.”—The New York Times
