About

“Such visceral power and emotional truth that there were audible gasps and quite a few tears from the audience. No one should miss this production. I feel I have been once again shaken to my core, knowing this is what theater can and should be.”

Through a series of “swiftly changing spectacular scenes” (Russia’s Teatral), Shakespeare’s classic play becomes a mirror of modern society in a dexterously crafted adaption from director Declan Donnellan, designer Nick Ormerod, English theater company Cheek by Jowl, and the Pushkin Theatre Moscow. With a unique brew of humor and high seriousness, the story dissects the nature of justice, mercy, and virtue—asking unsettling questions about how we are governed and the relationships between those in power, and those not. In Russian with projected English titles. No intermission.

Recommended for age 16 and up; includes depictions of sexual violence and brief nudity.

Performance Timing: Approximately 2 hours, with no intermission.
