An Afternoon with Ireland's Laureates 

NOTE: Free general admission tickets will be distributed approximately 30 minutes prior to the event in the Family Theater lobby area, two (2) tickets per person in line. There is no free parking when attending free events.

Award-winning poet Paula Meehan, an artist especially renowned for her visceral readings, is currently serving as Ireland's current Professor of Poetry. Siobhán Parkinson is Ireland's first Laureate for Children's Literature.

Event Timing: Approximately 90 minutes, with no intermission.

The Literature series is presented in collaboration with Poetry Ireland with the support of Malin Corporation plc.

Poet and playwright Paula Meehan was born and reared in the north inner city of Dublin. Her family later moved to Finglas where she spent her teenage years. She studied at Trinity College, Dublin and at Eastern Washington University. She has published six award winning collections of poetry, the most recent, Painting Rain, in 2009. She has written plays for both adults and children, including Cell and The Wolf of Winter. Music for Dogs:works for radio, collects three plays concerned with suicide during the recent economic boom years in Ireland. Selections of her poetry have been published in French, German, Galician, Japanese, Estonian, Greek, and smaller selections published in other languages including Irish. Dedalus Press have recently republished Mysteries of the Home, seminal poems from the 1980's and the 1990's. She has been the Ireland Professor of Poetry since 2013.
Siobhán Parkinson
is best known as a writer for children and teenagers (though she has also written for adults) and she has received national and international awards for her books. Her work has been translated into several languages. She served as Ireland's first children's laureate (Laureate na nÓg) 2010-12.
