Sancho, Dulcinea, their Knight and his Quest, is a timeless tale told for young audiences. Under the Artistic Direction of Paul Gordon Emerson, Company E will utilize the different stories within Miguel de Cervates’ classic tale Don Quixote, fitting them together to form the journey of two of the beloved but lesser-known characters: Sancho Panza and Dulcinea. Using puppetry, projection, song, film, and shadow, this work will tell the story of friendship and imagination, of love and loss, and of the journey that takes two wondrous characters down the roads from La Mancha. Company E members—Rob Priore, Jason Garcia Ignacio, Kathryn Pilkington, Bruno Augusto, Amanda Engelhardt, and Mr. Emerson—collaborate on the choreography, each leading different parts of different tales, employing their own unique styles in the narratives they choose from the epic tale of Don Quixote. Scenic elements are by Mr. Emerson and Court Watson, and both Spanish and English are employed to tell the story.
Company E is a contemporary repertory dance company, dance education, and interdisciplinary arts organization based Washington, D.C. that emphasizes international collaborations with the great choreographers and dancers at work today. The Company works as both a vehicle for national and international choreographers such as Paul Taylor, Ohad Naharin, and Nacho Duato, and as a collective creating works by the artists of the Company themselves.
