"Everything they do is human and marvelous."
--UK's The Independent
Formed in 1980, Mark Morris Dance Group gave its first concert that year in New York City. By 1991, MMDG was regarded as one of the world's leading dance companies, performing across the U.S. and at major international festivals. In the fall of 2001, MMDG opened its first permanent U.S. home, the Mark Morris Dance Center, in Brooklyn.
Noted for its commitment to live music, the company returns to the Center for the first time since 1999 to perform the evening-length Mozart Dances as part of Modern Masters, the Center's celebration of American modern dance. Rich and rewarding, Mozart Dances inspired John Rockwell of the New York Times to write "after only a first viewing, I feel safe in pronouncing it a masterpiece, a triumph...and one of Mr. Morris's greatest achievements." Set to two Mozart piano concertos--No. 11 in F major (K. 413) and No. 27 in B-flat major (K. 595)--flanking his Sonata in D major for Two Pianos (K. 448), and danced against a backdrop of visuals by Howard Hodgkin, it has been called "one of the most definitive personal statements of Morris's career" (UK's The Guardian).
