About the Program
President and Mrs. Bush will attend NBCs Concert for America special, airing Wednesday, September 11 (check local listings for time).
The special production from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. will feature appearances by Kelsey Grammer, James Earl Jones, Rudolph Giuliani, Senator Edward M. Kennedy and Caroline Kennedy, along with musical performances by Chris Isaak, Denyce Graves and India Arie. Tom Brokaw hosts the event, which is part of America Remembers, NBCs extensive two-day coverage beginning September 10 of the one-year anniversary of last years tragic events. Mrs. Bush is Honorary Chairman of the Concert for America.
As previously announced, Plácido Domingo, Gloria Estefan, Renée Fleming, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Josh Groban, Enrique Iglesias and Alan Jackson will also pay tribute to the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001 during the two-hour special, along with the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Leonard Slatkin. In addition to honoring the victims and heroes of September 11, the special will also use words and music to reflect on the year that has followed since the terrorist attacks, and the spirit of unity that has emerged across the country. Featuring the voices of everyday people, as well as famous figures past and present, the special will remember lives lost, and celebrate the resiliency of the American spirit.
