About the Program

This Baltimore-born pianist began his astonishing career alongside Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, and as a member of Betty Carter's trio. Much like Ray Charles, he uses gospel roots to transmit his joyful affinity for early jazz forms, revealing "an orchestral command of the keyboard and a sophisticated sense of swing" (People Magazine). As part of his program, the Kennedy Center favorite performs originals from his latest CD, Genuine Chestnut, which also features covers of Fats Domino's "I'm Walkin'," the classic Bread ballad "If," and Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."
