About the Program
For more than four decades, Britain's famed "Queen of Jazz" has enchanted audiences with her "smoky, bold, and imaginative voice" (Rolling Stone Magazine). Possessed of a rare versatility, she is the only singer to be nominated for Grammys in the Female Jazz, Popular, and Classical categories. Her classic recording Shakespeare and All That Jazz won a coveted five stars in DownBeat Magazine. In this special concert, Cleo Laine and her husband and musical director Sir John Dankworth perform music from the album, along with Bard-inspired works that were commissioned for new millennium festivities at the Kennedy Center.
