About the Program
For young pianist Gerald Clayton, jazz began as a family affair. The son of bassist John Clayton and the nephew of saxophonist Jeff Clayton, he has performed in the Clayton Brothers Quintet. In 2006, he astounded audiences as a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, and in March 2007 he lent his gifts to the Kennedy Center's all-star Jazz in Our Time concert. The New York Times hails him for having a "huge, authoritative presence, an Oscar Peterson–like style, and highly controlled touch."Media partner: WPFW 89.3 FM
