About the Program
Progressive pianist Tigran Hamasyan approaches "nearly every tune as an arc, beginning in contemplation and building to a crashing fury" (The New York Times). Born in Armenia, he began playing professionally at the age of 10, finding inspiration from such jazz notables as Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker. The 2006 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition winner returns to the Kennedy Center with original compositions featuring his dynamic energy and eclectic style.Media partner: WPFW 89.3 FM
