About the Program
One of America's most fascinating and well-regarded young pianists, Christopher Taylor returns to the Kennedy Center to play Bach on a special instrument that combines the harpsichord's ability to double its keyboard with the sonority of a modern Steinway. This unique instrument helps produce a faithful rendering of J.S. Bach's equally unique Goldberg Variations--a set of 30 variations composed primarily for the two-manual harpsichord. This ambitious work has loomed large as the pinnacle of Baroque music, attempted by few and mastered by even fewer. Together, Taylor's inspired talent, this ingenious instrument, and Bach's singular and demanding composition meet to create an astounding performance.Program:
