About the Program
Pinchas Zukerman returns with his chamber ensemble--violist Jethro Marks and cellist Amanda Forsyth--and this time with one of Canada's most wonderful exports, pianist Angela Cheng. Zukerman asks the most from his fellow players, "galvanizing his mostly twenty-something colleagues to match his conviction and musicianship," says the Chicago Tribune. The result is a chamber quartet that consistently delivers perfection. In addition to a beloved Brahms Piano Quartet and Kodály's duo for violin and cello, the program includes a true rarity: a violin and piano sonata composed to celebrate Joseph Joachim's birthday by three of his friends, Schumann, Brahms, and Dietrich. The Brahms Scherzo from this work is played often in violin recitals, but almost never complete with the other three movements.Running Time: 95 minutes
