In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn's birth, the "consistently brilliant…dangerous and radical" (The New York Times) Trio Solisti presents one of the master's most lauded works for trio. Mendelssohn's Trio No. 2 in C minor alternates between a thunderous expression of the composer's personal difficulties and sections of light and fluttering sound, which he used to escape his pain. Bachmann, Gerlach, and Kilbonoff perform both faces of this master's work with equal parts tenderness and zeal. The program also includes Mussorgsky's popular orchestral work rearranged for piano trio, a tango-inspired Piazzolla piece, and a world premiere work from Paul Moravec. Part of the Kennedy Center's Focus on Russia.
