About the Program

The immense sound created by the East Coast Chamber Orchestra defies all rational expectations. Powered by youthful vigor and ageless skill, ECCO "creates a kind of heat that takes music-making to a higher or deeper place" (The Philadelphia Inquirer). The conductor-less chamber orchestra focuses on the pure joy of music, here performing highly uplifting and sanguine works befitting their zesty style. From the baroque variations of Purcell's Chacony, which grows in power and magic with each repeated eight-measure phrase, to Heitor Villa-Lobos's Bach-inspired Bachianas Brasileiras No. 9, ECCO whirls through a program that celebrates music for music's sake. Capping the performance is Tchaikovsky's lovely Serenade--a fitting end to this Valentine's Day concert. Part of the Kennedy Center's Focus on Russia.
