World War II Navy officers combat bureaucracy and boredom with high-seas hi-jinks in this all-new Kennedy Center production of the 1948 Tony Award® winner for Best Play. Aboard a cargo vessel anchored in the South Pacific, young lieutenant Douglas Roberts hungers to trade in his daily war of wills with the ship’s irascible captain for action and glory on the front lines. Peppered with clever dialogue and moments of rousing inspiration, this enduring American comedy of uncommon heroism will be directed by Robert Longbottom, a 2003 Tony Award® nominee whose director/choreographer credits include Side Show and Flower Drum Song. Part of the Kennedy Center–wide festival A New America: The 1940s and the Arts.
