Emmy and two-time Tony Award winner Christine Baranski returns to Washington--following her triumphant performance at the Kennedy Center Sondheim Celebration as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd--to portray one of the most beloved characters in American musical theater. Since the publication of Patrick Dennis's book in 1955, the story of the eccentric Auntie Mame has been retold through play, film, Broadway musical, and Hollywood musical. Now Sondheim Celebration Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer helms an all-new Kennedy Center production of this classic with its irresistible score by Jerry Herman that includes "If He Walked Into My Life," "Open a New Window," "We Need A Little Christmas," "Bosom Buddies," and many other favorite songs.
Following the whirlwind adventures of an unconventional aunt and her nephew with a rogue's gallery of memorable characters--including has-been actress Vera Charles, timid secretary Agnes Gooch, and southern gentleman Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside, among others--plus hilarious encounters with proper society, Mame has touched the hearts and tickled the funnybones of audiences everywhere.
