For nearly 50 years, the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra has played a principal role in the island’s musical life. Promoting classical music and making an occasional incursion into the popular canon, it has become one of the most important musical influences in Central America and the Caribbean. For its concert at the Kennedy Center, Orquesta Sinfónica de Puerto Rico led by Music Director Guillermo Figueroa presents a program of works by Puccini, Gutiérrez-Espinosa, Rossini, Sorozábal, and other composers—to include stirring arias and duets, from zarzuela and opera, performed by soprano Ana María Martínez and tenor César Hernández.
