About the Program

Born in Nagano, Yayoi Kusama started to paint at a young age using polka dots and nets as motifs. Now an icon of the visual arts world, her career spans a remarkable seven decades. For the festival, Kusama invites visitors to experience Dots Obsession, her world-premiere mixed media installation.

One room, Night, is black with yellow polka dots, while the other, Day, is yellow with black polka dots. Kusama says, "The earth is one of the polka dots, and so are the stars, the sun, and the moon. Their beauty is beyond words."
