About the Program
Seven remarkable individuals…seven remarkable stories. First-hand experiences from the disability community are explored in this new work commissioned by VSA arts as part of Ping Chong & Company's ongoing series of oral-history theater works known as the Undesirable Elements project. Exploring issues of race, culture, and identity in America, powerful personal histories are interwoven into a script that is performed by the participants themselves, giving voice to stories that frequently go unheard. With more than 30 works in the series, the project has been critically acclaimed for "its smashing of stereotypes" (The Village Voice). The Twin Cities Reader declared, "The cumulative power of these shared stories is nothing short of astonishing…Ping Chong creates a tremendous tapestry of lives."
