The Web Content Department is responsible for the all of the Kennedy Center and National Symphony Orchestra web pages. It manages thousands of pages covering upcoming performances, education, all electronic mailing campaigns, and other programs. Interns will be responsible for creating and updating pages and graphics using current web design software such as Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash. This is a fast-paced internship for anyone interested in learning how a web design/ e-commerce department operates within the context of a larger organization.
- To enhance web design and programming skills through the daily use of Dreamweaver, Fireworks/Photoshop, and Flash (if applicable)
- To increase experience balancing multiple projects while meeting deadlines
- To increase knowledge of web-development software and applications
- To learn how an effective full-scale e-commerce website operates
- Coordinate workflow operations with the Content Manager and other departments to update and maintain current (and create new) Kennedy Center and National Symphony Orchestra web pages
- Regularly look for new and innovative ways to improve the website and communicate those ideas to staff members
- Research, gather, and develop content for the website including graphics, HTML, Flash, and text
- Work with the Graphic Designer to refine skills in creating attractive web pages
- Work with the Web Editor to ensure that all text meets departmental guidelines for grammar usage and stylistic qualities.
- Create and send a weekly progress reports to the Content Manager
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Must be able to work projects through from concept to completion
- Must be available to work 40 hours/ week and after hours
- Must be competent in using the following software programs and languages and knowledgeable about their standard practices: HTML, Microsoft Office, Macromedia Dreamweaver, and Fireworks or Photoshop
- Must be able to represent the web department to our clients and conduct his or herself in a manner that is professional, positive, and helpful
- Must be able to communicate status and problems clearly and be able to effectively communicate and work within a team environment
The applicant should have, or be working toward, a degree or equivalent education with specific emphasis on web design. Candidate must provide URLs or a portfolio that demonstrates ability.

- Two current letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak for your background and skills. Letters must arrive in sealed envelopes with the signature of the letter writer appearing across the envelope flap.
- Writing Sample (no more than three pages)
- List of urls of web pages you have worked on and a description of what you role you have played in development of the site
- Applicants from non-native English speaking countries must provide proof of English speaking and writing competence through a minimum TOEFL score of 600. Applicants who have earned a bachelor's degree in an English-speaking country may request an exemption from this requirement.
International applicants must have a valid visa. The Kennedy Center does not assist with visa applications.
Telephone interviews will be conducted as part of the final selection process.

All materials must arrive in one package and must be written in English or have a certified translation. Postmark deadlines are:
