VSA/Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., Exhibition Program

For the past ten years, VSA and Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., have teamed up to recognize and showcase emerging artists with disabilities, ages 16-25, who are living in the United States. This collaboration supports these artists at a critical time when many are deciding whether to pursue the arts as a career. The award validates, and helps finance, that life-defining choice.

Every year, fifteen artists are selected for the exhibition and share $60,000 in cash awards generously provided by Volkswagen Group of America, Inc: a $20,000 grand prize, a $10,000 first award, a $6,000 second award, and 12 awards of excellence of $2,000 each.

2012 Call for Art: Sustaining/ Creating

This year's call for art asks emerging artists to showcase work that illuminates innovative viewpoints on sustainability and contemporary creativity. Beyond its scientific definition, sustainability references notions of responsibility and stewardship of our natural world in all facets of human interaction–from the environmental to the cultural. Sustainability indicates the capacity to endure.

2011: Momentum

Momentum asked artists to examine the creative spark behind their work. What is the force that drives their artistic interest? What informs the path they take each day as they move toward their future? The resulting exhibition showcased the diverse viewpoints and variety of creative processes of these emerging artists as they gain momentum in their artistic trajectories.
