About
Romeo and Juliet
Music by Sergei Prokofiev
Choreography by Sir Kenneth MacMillan
With superior dancing that ranges from the larger-than-life to the enchantingly intimate, American Ballet Theatre exerts a powerful attraction throughout the ballet world. Few companies rival its combination of size, scope, and sheer magnetism of movement. The company has brought to life the great 19th-century classics with unsurpassed elegance and beauty, and graced the finest 20th-century works with bravura theatrics and virtuoso dancing. With his vision of ABT as definitively “American,” Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie has fashioned an “incredible company” (The New York Post) with an everlasting commitment to its vast repertoire; a national dance institution that showcases our country’s best.
American Ballet Theatre returns to the Kennedy Center—in its first-ever performance in the Concert Hall—to present Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet. This full-length version of Shakespeare’s classic romantic tragedy, performed to the music of Prokofiev, is a showcase for “the most spectacular dancing in the world” (The New York Times). From the grandeur of the masked ball to the intimacy of the garden balcony, ABT’s dancers bring this tale of young love and bitter feuds to vibrant life.
