About
During their very first Kennedy
Center engagement, in July of 1989, the Washington Post wrote
that the Kirov “is awesome in its perfection of style, its technical power
and assurance, its unanimity of spirit, and in the majestic scale of it all.”
Once again, the Kirov Ballet, with an unmistakable style that has set the
standard for classical dance for more than 200 years, returns to the Kennedy
Center Opera House in two, week-long engagements as part of the Kennedy Center’s
Tchaikovsky Festival – the second visit in their unique 10-year partnership
with the Center. During the first week (12/23-28) – which will be the inaugural
engagement in the newly-renovated Opera House -- the company will perform the Washington premiere of their version of the holiday classic
The Nutcracker. The second week (12/30-1/4), the company will perform
their signature staging of the evening-length jewel Swan Lake.
Performances will be with live orchestra.
The Kennedy Center presentation of the Kirov Ballet is made possible through the generous support of Alberto W. Vilar.
