About
For more than 200 years at its home in St. Petersburg, the
Kirov Ballet has resided at the top echelons of artistic
achievement to which so many other companies aspire. For its first engagement in the Kennedy Center's 2004-2005 ballet season, the Kirov presents it new production of Cinderella, choreographed by Alexey Ratmansky and featuring Sergei Prokofiev's exquisite music. A grand showcase for Russia's bravura style, Ratmansky's version of the fairy-tale ballet is an "interpretation of exceptional merit" (The
Financial Times). Filled with gorgeous pas de deux, endearing characters, and many magical moments, the production also promises a few original twists. From the Prince and Cinderella's first passionate ballroom duet...to the dramatic strike of the clock at midnight...to the transformation of a shy young woman into a beautiful princess...this engagement of Cinderella promises yet another Kirov triumph.
