About
Residing in the top echelon of artistic achievement for more than 200 years, St. Petersburg's Kirov Ballet is "awesome in its perfection of style, its technical power and assurance, its unanimity of spirit, and in the majestic scale of it all" (The Washington Post).
Romeo and Juliet
Choreography by Leonid Lavrovsky
Music by Sergei Prokofiev
The Kirov returns to the Kennedy Center to perform its landmark production of Romeo and Juliet, which was created for the company in 1940 by Leonid Lavrovsky to Sergei Prokofiev's monumental score. This full-length version of Shakespeare's classic tragedy of young love is packed with ensemble numbers and spectacle, framing performances that are "passionate, subtle, and beautifully danced" (The Sunday Times, London). With drama, romance, and excitement, Romeo and Juliet glitters with bravura dancing by the Kirov's internationally acclaimed company. Part of the citywide festival Shakespeare in Washington.
