"Fairly bursts with comfort and joy"--The Washington Post
"A holiday must-see!"--The Salt Lake Tribune
No winter is complete without hearing the sweet sounds of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy"! Ring in the holidays this December with America's first full-length Nutcracker, when Utah's Ballet West returns to present Willam Christensen's beloved production. When they danced it to sold-out houses in 2012, the Washington Post hailed the "bright-spirited production, from Salt Lake City's exceedingly handsome ballet company," as bursting with "comfort and joy." Ballet West's The Nutcracker features Tchaikovsky's timeless score, and a brilliant blend of Victorian-era costumes, sets, and choreography to create a magical storybook world. Performed with live orchestra, children's choir, and a host of young children from the area, this is the seasonal gift everyone deserves to receive. The New York Times calls it "one of the best productions I've ever seen."
Performance Timing: Act I - 50 min.; Intermission - 20 min.; Act II - 48 min.
Note: Following the Saturday, Dec. 13 matinee performance, meet dancers from Ballet West, who will sign merchandise in the Grand Foyer outside of the Opera House.
The Kennedy Center’s Ballet Season is presented with the support of Elizabeth and Michael Kojaian.
