Great Britain's most prestigious ballet company, The Royal Ballet returns for the first time since 2009--when the Washington Post praised the Company for its "sublime" dancing and a "solidly top-flight" cast--with Carlos Acosta's new full-length Don Quixote.

Having danced Petipa's classic Don Quixote with the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and other companies throughout his career, Carlos Acosta offers his own take, drawing inspiration from Petipa's original production, with music by Ludwig Minkus arranged by Martin Yates. Based on excerpts of the novel Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes, the story follows the eccentric knight and his loyal squire and the young lovers Kitri and Basilio through their hilarious misadventures in search of true love. The ballet is filled with spectacular sets and costumes, gypsy dancers and musicians, and virtuoso dancing.

From its early beginnings as the Vic-Wells Ballet at the Sadler's Wells Theatre in North London to its transfer to the Royal Opera House in 1946 and renaming by Royal Charter in 1956, The Royal Ballet has a long history as one of the world's great companies. Now led by Kevin O'Hare, who took the helm in 2012, the Company is known as "a supreme interpreter of dramatic ballets" (The Guardian). Many of the 20th century classics currently performed worldwide were created for The Royal Ballet and the Company continues its quest for new choreography through the work of Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor, Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon, Artist in Residence Liam Scarlett, and other leading choreographers of the day.
