ColkerÆs modern dance works are results of aesthetic questioning. Her choreography marries multi-disciplinary physical audacity with high-concept design. In Rota, the dominant figure is a 22-foot high, 1.5 ton wheel framed by ladders. Her latest show, Casa û premiering in the US here at the Kennedy Center û spotlights body architecture in the domestic context of a split-house, while the movement material is derived from universally familiar activities. About the Company
Deborah Colker established her dance company in 1994. In 1996, the company was fitted with a stage, storage rooms for costumes and props, building shop in downtown Rio de Janeiro. This space was made possible with the support of its exclusive sponsor, Petrobras, a Brazilian oil company. It is a space for the development of new dancers, but also the place where Deborah Colker and her group test their limits.

Casa: 1999 (World premiere, February 6-8)
Casa is perhaps the greatest challenge faced by the choreographer Deborah Colker. Casa is a piece where Colker focuses on one theme and location during one single act. Deborah works with a constant motif û daily life and its banality, and the architecture of movement. She utilizes the structure of a house to discuss aesthetics and to talk about the sense of beauty.

Rota: 1997 (February 9-11)
ôRota are lines, circles, and maps. The occupation and exploration of space. In the four movements of the first act (Allegro, Ostinato, Vigoroso, and Presto) I use the classical ballet vocabulary, playing with everyday gestures and movements. The second act is divided into two movements: Gravity and Wheel. The first one came from the atmosphere that surrounds astronauts; the second was inspired by entertainment parks and the earthÆs rotation. Rota is motion in search of entertainment, joy and movement.ö Deborah Colker.
