About
--The Globe and Mail
"When you think you've seen every move the dancers have in them, they surprise you."
--The Washington Post
Since she founded Companhia de Dança Deborah Colker in 1994, the namesake Brazilian director/choreographer--a psychology graduate and former volleyball player--has taken off on soaring flights of creation and made a solid name for herself in the world of dance. Inspired by her experiences as an athlete, Colker marries physically daring feats with visually striking designs to challenge notions of space and gravity and redefine the rules for what can and can't be done.
Returning to the Kennedy Center for the first time since 2003, the company performs Colker's Mix, which earned her the distinction of being the first Brazilian to win London's prestigious Olivier Award in 2001. The seven-movement work is "exhilarating, breath-taking stuff, the kind of adrenaline rush that you associate with the moments when the line between sport and art disappears and you're left with a moment of sheer physical beauty" (The Guardian).
Please note: This performance contains nudity.
Performance Timing: Act I - 33 min.; Intermission - 20 min.; Act II - 28 min.
Explore the Arts: On Oct. 28, join a free post-performance discussion with a moderator and members of the company.
