Amy K. Bormet's Striking Quartet performs on Friday, May 11, as part of the Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Emerging Artist Showcase. Bormet is a 2010 alumnus of the Kennedy Center's Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead residency program and 2010 Howard University graduate. In 2010, she was chosen to be in the inaugural Mary Lou Williams' Emerging Artist Workshop at the Kennedy Center. She is the founder of the Washington Women in Jazz Festival, now in its second year, a concert series showcasing D.C.'s best female jazz musicians.

The Christie Dashiell Quartet performs on Saturday, May 12. A Washington, D.C. native, Dashiell is a jazz vocalist and graduate of Howard University, where she was a member of the premiere vocal jazz ensemble Afro Blue. A participant in the Kennedy Center's 2010 Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead residency program, she most recently appeared on season three of NBC's The Sing-Off as a member of Afro Blue.  She is currently pursuing graduate study at the Manhattan School of Music.
