About

In this continuation of the popular Ballet 360° lecture series, dance critic Alexandra Tomalonis uses video of well-known ballets to take us beyond the steps and into the fine craft of making a ballet.

George Balanchine is said to have joked, "One should call every ballet Swan Lake because then people would come." He was probably right. Nearly everyone has heard of Swan Lake and its beautiful Tchaikovsky score, and often those who are curious about ballet make it their first ballet performance choice. Yet different productions vary--Swan Lake has been revised, renewed, turned inside out and upside down, while still remaining Swan Lake. What is its magic and the secret of its durability?

Performance Timing: 90 minutes
