About

Director and choreographer Bill T. Jones--whose major honors include the Kennedy Center Honors, a MacArthur "Genius" Award, and two Tony Awards for Best Choreography--reflects on his art and life through storytelling, conversation, and music in this special event inspired by his forthcoming book Story/Time. Drawn from his own life and tales handed down through the generations of his family, Jones's vignettes are windows into his childhood as part of a large, poor, Southern family that migrated to upstate New York; his struggles to find a place for himself in a white-dominated dance world; his encounters with notable artists and musicians; and his ambivalent attraction to avant-garde modernism.  Musician, composer, and intermedia artist Ted Coffey, Ph.D. accompanies this provocative meditation on the demands and rewards of artistic creation. Join us for this inspiring and enlightening evening celebrating the life and work of one of the great artists of our time.

Performance Timing: 60 minutes, with no intermission.
