About
By Karen Jones Meadows
Part of the Imagination Celebration Season 2000-2001
If you've seen Debbie Allen's sellout hit productions of original shows for young audiences at the Kennedy Center (Brothers of the Knight, Pepito's Story, Dreams), then you know that this director/choreographer is as creative and gifted as she is versatile. Now you can see her as an actress in an indelible performance as Harriet Tubman in this critically acclaimed play about the heroine of the Underground Railroad. "As portrayed by Allen, [Harriet Tubman] is an earthy, lusty, wryly funny warrior-poet. As deeply felt and vitally acted a piece of theater as you'll experience" (Los Angeles Daily News).
Production adapted for young audiences; recommended for young people ages 13 and above. There is occasionaly suggested violence - silhouettes of lynched men, etc. and a sensual pas de deux between Harriet and her first husband.
Group of 20 or more? Group Sales offers special terms and discounts for most performances.
