About

For thirty-two years the Vermeer Quartet has traveled in the musical stratosphere, among the world’s greatest chamber music ensembles. Its personnel, from Israel, Germany, Britain and the United States, combine to bring a collective depth and broad perspective to its performances and recordings of a broad spectrum of standard repertoire as well as new works written especially for the group. The Journal de Geneve, Switzerland writes, “This is one of the best ensembles that one can hear anywhere today. I don't know what to admire most; a warm, malleable sonority, a supple and precise technique, perfect precision, but above all, phrasing that is always full of sensitivity and great delicacy." Due to unforeseen circumstances Christine Goerke and Warren Jones will not perform on the program, but rising young soprano Lauren Skuce will take the stage with pianist Cameron Stowe to perform three songs by Tchaikovksy and Tatiana’s moving "Letter Scene" from his operatic masterpiece, Eugene Onégin. Violist Mahoko Eguchi and cellist David Hardy join the Vermeer for the rousing, virtuosic Souvenir de Florence.
