About
Renaud Capuçon, who plays a 1721 Stradivarius that
belonged to Fritz Kreisler, is a rising star in the violin firmament.
Still in his twenties, he has already performed with most of Europe’s
major orchestras, traveled to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York,
in major halls in Japan, and recorded several works for Virgin Classics.
His brother, 22-year-old André Navarre Cello Competition-winning cellist
Gauthier Capuçon, who plays a 1701 Matteo Goffriller, was named France’s
2001 “New Talent of the Year” by Victories de la Musique. Pianist
Frank Braley—whom Le Mond de la Musique calls “a rare combination
of intelligence and poetry,” is the Capuçon’s regular duo and trio partner.
The fabulous clarinetist Paul Meyer, described as "a soloist of
impeccable taste and flawless technique” by music scholar and writer
H.C. Robbins Landon, is hailed as France’s premiere solo clarinetist.
These musicians, all native Frenchmen, will conclude this all-French
program with their interpretation of Messiaen’s legendary Quartet for
the End of Time.
