About
Revered for its distinctively rich sound and majestic playing,
this award-winning ensemble is one of the world’s most celebrated
string quartets; a model for other quartets and a joy for
listeners. The New York Times says the Guarneri "has no superior
on the world’s stages," while the Miami Herald raves, "Some
things, like the Guarneri, are as good as it gets." Each year,
the oft-honored quartet performs just one concert in
Washington—and this is it. The program features two string
quartets by Mozart and Ravel that bookend a gorgeous work
championed by the Guarneri: Frank Bridge's First String Quartet,
a darkly emotional Brahms-like treasure from the vaults of
early 20th-century British chamber music.
