About
When Roy Haynes plays his drums, more than half a century of
experience informs every thundering stroke. His unrelenting
swing and quicksilver responsiveness have been pushing the beat
of jazz forward since the early 1940s. Dubbed "one of the seven
wonders of modern jazz" by Billboard, Roy Haynes salutes
the late Charlie "Bird" Parker, the legendary alto saxophonist
with whom Haynes played in the 1940s and '50s, when Parker and
others were creating what came to be called bebop. In the Terrace
Theater, alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett and bassist Christian
McBride join the drummer for masterful tunes from Haynes's CD Birds of a Feather.
