About
Dizzy Gillespie once said, "If you know Jimmy Heath, you know
Bop." Designated as a National Endowment for the Arts
"Jazz Master"—and honored by Jazz at Lincoln Center in 2001
as a "triple threat" for his legendary composing and arranging
skills and gifts on the tenor saxophone and flute—Jimmy Heath
has a musical appetite that can't be sated. Having collaborated
with nearly all the jazz greats of the last 60 years—from
Gillespie and Charlie Parker to John Coltrane and Wynton
Marsalis—he performs a program of bop and more, inspired by
his 1940s beginnings.
