"The most exciting American string quartet of its generation"
--The New York Times
Two seasons ago, the Emersons performed Shostakovich's first eight string quartets as part of the composer's centenary. Those concerts utterly enraptured Fortas audiences, prompting the group to now return to complete the cycle. Widely regarded as the premier interpreters of these works, the Emersons won two Grammy Awards in 2000 for their recording of all 15. Over two consecutive evenings, they'll perform Shostakovich's remaining string quartets--from the solemn harmonies of No. 9 to the ambiguous tonalities of No. 12 to the final introspective notes of No. 15. The Nov. 5 concert features Nos. 9-12 and the Nov. 6 concert features Nos. 13-15. Together, these masterpieces act as the private diary of an artist who lived through some of the most tumultuous years in Russia's history.
