About

Making her Fortas debut as part of the Kennedy Center's Joyful Sounds: Gospel Across America, Marietta Simpson brings her immense voice and talent to spirited gospel arrangements. Joined by her sister, pianist Evelyn Curenton, and tenor John Aler, Simpson performs works by Johnson, Hogan, Curenton, Smallwood, and Jones. She also sings classical works by Bach, Brahms, and Schubert. Native to Philadelphia, Marietta Simpson has been awarded Temple University's Certificate of Honor and first prize from New York Opera Index. She has performed on the classical stage with the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra. With "her tone, rich and glorious, she endows everything she sings with uncommon intelligence," says the San Francisco Chronicle.
