About

Last seen at the Kennedy Center in February 2008 in the sold-out performance with Tony-winning choreographer and tap master Savion Glover, 2002 NEA Jazz Master and five-time Grammy-winning pianist McCoy Tyner returns to the Center to play in the intimate Terrace Theater. Tyner's legendary blues-based piano style "has never sounded better, his monolithic chords resound with timeless drama while his expansive arpeggios ripple with cosmic intensity; his left hand summons a thunderous undercurrent while his right cuts a kaleidoscopic swath through the undertow" (All About Jazz). Known for his collaborations with young artists, he is joined by the Howard University Jazz Ensemble led by music director Fred Irby III, a member of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra.
