Accepted into the gifted program at the Cleveland Institute of Music at age 6, multi-talented Shelly Berg--a pianist, composer, arranger, and educator--began performing professionally by 13. Berg returns to the Kennedy Center for the first time since his April 2005 engagement with Lorraine Feather as part of the Center's A New America: The 1940s and the Arts festival. All About Jazz calls Berg "one of the most eloquent, swinging, and accomplished pianists in jazz," and the Los Angeles Times says he "burns hard, his fingers flying over the keyboard while his body nearly levitates off the bench, [leaving the] crowd breathless!"
