About
The Juilliard String Quartet has a large pedagogical footprint in the world of chamber music. For this third evening of paired ensembles, they have hand-picked a protégé quartet with which to perform. Their selection of the vibrant Afiara String Quartet promises to be a fine pairing to The Juilliard String Quartet's venerable talent. The San Francisco Classical Voice calls the young Canadian musicians of Afiara "a terrifically unified, versatile, idiomatic, and moving ensemble."
For this concert, Juilliard plays quartets by Schubert and Bartók. Then they join forces with Afiara to play Mendelssohn's Octet. Not only is Mendelssohn's Octet a favorite of chamber music audiences, but the joint performance marks a symbolic passing of the torch from one of chamber music's most influential bodies to a group brimming with youthful promise.
